[San Francisco Earthquake Aftermath, 1906]

by Unknown

Published 1906

VS aftermath of 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Footage from moving vehicle driving down street; tents pitched along street, horse drawn carriages, demolished swathes of city. Huge line extending around street corner, men in line wave to camera, billboard for Pierce-Rodolph Storage Co. Downtown San Francisco, crumbled buildings, smoky air, stranded people on side of street, cable cars.

This film is very similar to the coverage of the 1908 San Fransisco Earthquake made by a vehicle footage found elsewhere on this site. I like how, in the film, either there was dust or fog or whathaveyou, covering what we were going to see next, very expressionist. As usual, people, in their 1908 finery, are all walking about looking befuddled for a camera. A very curious piece, but drags on unfortunately.
